At 53–66 cm this is the largest wader and therefore the largest migrating wader in the world, the biggest being just 1 cm larger than the biggest Long-billed Curlew.

The Far Eastern Curlew breeds in north-eastern Asia, and winters mainly in coastal Australia, with some getting as far as New Zealand and others remaining in south-east Asia.
