Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica

The record for the longest single migration flight by a wader is held by the Bar-tailed Godwit. An individual of the race baueri flew from Alaska, where it bred, to New Zealand non-stop, a journey of 12,050 km, taking 11 days.

Bar-tailed Godwits breed intermittently across the arctic from northern Scandinavia east to Alaska and winter along some coasts of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia.
