Red Knot Calidris canutus

An individual of the race rufa was recorded over 22 years making an annual round trip of around 32,000km each year. The bird was named Moon Bird, the total distance being to the moon and most of the way back again.

Red Knots breed in parts of Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland and Siberia, wintering in relatively small areas of southern South America, Africa and Australasia.
