Irediparra – After Tom Iredale (1800-1972); Parra was original genus name for jacanas.
gallinacea – Latin; gallinaceus of hens (gallina hen).

Distribution: Sulawesi, eastern Australia and the Philippines

Conservation Status: Least Concern

Subspecies:

I. g. gallinacea (Temminck 1820) Latin; gallinaceus of hens (gallina hen) – South-east Borneo, Sulawesi, south-east Philippines (Mindano), Moluccas and Lesser Sundas.
I. g. novaeguinae (Ramsay 1878) New Guinea (Latin novus new; guinea West Africa) – North and Central New Guinea, Misool and Aru Islands.
I. g. novaehollandiae (Salvadori 1882) New Holland (Modern Latin based on the name given by Dutch explorers to western Australia, later in the 17th to early 19th Centuries to mean all of Australia. Ornithologically  it usually refers to eastern Australia – Southern New Guinea, D’Entrecateaux Island, north and east Australia south to Sydney.
