Family: PLUVIANIDAE (MacGillivray 1852)
Genus: Pluvianus – French pluvian, name given to Egyptian Plover as ‘Pluvian de Sénégal’ (pluvier plover) by d’Aubenton (1765-1781) (Vieillot 1816).
- Africa: Egyptian Plover.
One species. Uncertain affinities. Appears to be related to the pratincoles and coursers into which it is sometimes subsumed.
- Egyptian Plover Pluvianus aegyptius (‘Charadrius aegyptius’ Linnaeus 1758)
Until recently formed part of the Glareolidae with pratincoles and coursers.
